The temperature dipped into the single digits, but I refused to sleep in the house. It had been about a month since I concluded the wedding photography season and cleaned out the apartment. Moving my dog Monty and me into the Jeep Wrangler for the foreseeable future. And Mother Nature was testing our limits.

There are moments in life when our comfortable day-to-day existence collides with a realization, a decision, or an experience that makes us question our purpose and what it is all for. For many of us, including the author of this book, moments like this can be triggered by one small but powerful word: CANCER.

As a professional photographer with over ten years of experience, 2017 was my best and worst year. Every weekend from May through October was booked, leaving little time for anything else. I yearned for a balance between work that paid the bills and personal work that filled my soul. However, my upbringing taught me the importance of seizing paid opportunities first. As a Vermont photographer, this often included a season of weddings. For me, it was my busiest year yet.
